  • MAKING STRIDES Against Breast Cancer Walk/Boston:  This ANNUAL walk is in, October and begins at the DCR Hatch Shell, 47 David G. Mugar Way, Boston, Ma., at 8:00 a.m.  Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a celebration of survivorship-an occasion to express hope and our shared determination to make this breast cancer’s last century.  All funds raised are used to support groundbreaking breast cancer research, life-saving education and critical patient services-all by walking! Join more than 1 million volunteers nationwide.  Volunteers are needed for set up or at the walk itself.  If you are interested in volunteering, you can contact Grace Brigham, Coordinator, Division Event Support of the American Cancer Society at 508-270-4643, or at grace.brigham@cancer.org.  A flyer with all volunteer opportunities is available in the Guidance Office, A confirmation letter will be sent to you, including directions and instructions for the position that you choose.  Help support this year’s Making Strides Breast Cancer event.

  • NORTH SHORE CANCER 2017 WALK:   The 27th annual North Shore Cancer Walk will take place in June.  It will start at Salem Willows Park, and wind through historic downtown Salem. The scenic 10K (6.2 miles)  Cancer Walk brings together thousands of participants for an unforgettable celebration of life, courage and community.  Proceeds from the 2017 Cancer Walk will support oncology services at North Shore Medical Center and the Massachusetts General/North Shore Cancer Center.  For more information go to northshorecancerwalk.org.
  • CARE DIMENSIONS/Walk for Hospice:  Care Dimensions hosts their annual  “Walk for Hospice” in September at St. John’s Preparatory School, located at 72 Spring Street, Danvers, Ma.    Registration for the event will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the 3-mile walk will begin at 9:00 a.m.  Volunteers are also needed to assist loading the truck the Friday before and Sunday after the walk.   • DanversCARES Coalition Fourth Annual “Light The Night Purple”: A walk and community gathering event to raise the  awareness of opiate and other substance use in our community, substance use prevention and treatment; to promote health, healing and recovery; and to erase the stigma associated with this disease.  The event takes place in May from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at The Rotary Pavilion at the Peabody Institute Library in Danvers, Ma. Volunteers are needed to help set-up from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and to clean-up from 8:00-9:00 p.m.  All volunteers are to meet at the Rotary Pavilion.   • FESTIVUS 5K FOR AUTISM: Come run the annual Festivus 5K for Autism in, December. All race proceeds will benefit the Northshore Education Consortium by helping educate and assist students with autism.  Last year, the race raised over $15,000 which helped purchase much needed technologies for students.  Volunteers are needed to support race coordinators.   • DANVERS POST-OFFICE Food Drive:  Hosted by the People to People Food Pantry each May, needs  volunteers to help unload donations from the postal trucks from 1:30-5:30 p.m.  The People to People Food Pantry is located at 12 Sylvan Street, Danvers, Ma. Barbara Remon, Program Coordinator, will provide pizza to all volunteers!  Please see Ms. LeBlanc, Community Service Coordinator, if you are interested in this great volunteer opportunity.
  • GRIFFIN’S GIFT 5K and FAMILY FUN DAY (Annual): Come participate in the first Annual Griffin’s Gift 5K Road Race and “Family Fun Day”,  dedicated to helping potential adoptive families with the financial burden of the adoption process. This non-profit charity/5K run is being held in July.  The race time is from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.  The race will begin at Danvers High School, located at 60 Cabot Road, Danvers, Ma.   • 27th ANNUAL WALK FOR HAWC/HEALING ABUSE WORKING FOR CHANGE: HAWC’s mission is to create social change by taking action against personal and societal patterns of violence and oppression. This 5K walk is a fun, family-friendly event that brings together hundreds of community members to raise awareness about domestic violence and to fundraise for comprehensive programming. HAWC supports more than 2,700 people per year in 23 cities and towns on the North Shore.  The money raised will support their 24-hour hotline, emergency shelters, legal services, advocacy, community education and support groups, and the parent child trauma recovery program. The walk will take place in May 2019, beginning on Salem Common in Salem, Ma.  Registration is at 10:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 12:00 Noon.   • REASON 2 RUN Danvers 5K: Is a run/walk that will be held in April , to benefit cancer care and research through the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.  The start and finish will be at Endicott Park in Danvers. This 5K is an official fundraising event and 100% of the proceeds will go to center care and research.  They are seeking volunteers to man water stations, give directions to runners/walkers, and help with set-up and clean-up.   • RTN Federal Credit Union Walk Home:  The RTN Federal Credit Union hosts it’s Annual RTN’s Walk Home, a 5K benefit walk to help homeless teens and families every June.  Individuals can walk, donate, sponsor a walker, or volunteer. One of the three Walk Home routes is the Danvers Rail Trail.  All proceeds benefit the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.   • STEP UP FOR COLLEEN 5K Walk/Run:  Run or walk to support the Step Up for Colleen Fund on Sunday, May TBD, 2019 in Andover, Ma.   Friends and family of Colleen Ritzer established this walk/run as a way to celebrate Colleen’s life and her commitment to help and inspire others.  Step Up for Colleen provides an opportunity for the community to come together to remember Colleen and the values by which she lived while raising funds for charitable efforts that honor her legacy, including the Colleen E. Ritzer Memorial Scholarship Fund.  The Fund benefits Andover and Danvers High School seniors who demonstrate a passion for teaching and love of family.   • NORTHEAST ARC:  Volunteers needed at First Steps Child Care Center.  Work with toddlers and pre-school age children during their after school hours program.   • TRUSTEES OF RESERVATIONS OF THE NORTH SHORE:  With multiple properties throughout the North Shore including Long Hill in Beverly, and Appleton Farms and the Crane Estate in Ipswich, there are a number of opportunities for student volunteers!  These include clean-ups, small painting projects, and much more. Sports teams and other student organizations are encouraged to come in as a group to work together on an assigned project.
