DHS School Counseling Department
The DHS School Counseling Department has four school counselors, and three licensed independent clinical social workers. Our school counselors provide academic advising, college and career education opportunities, and brief counseling for social emotional support. Our goal is that by graduation, all students will demonstrate knowledge of college and career options that fit their personality traits, interests and personal goals. Our social workers support students in building a strong foundation of social-emotional skills, including self-regulation, stress management, self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision-making, and healthy relationship skills. We help students learn how to sit with uncomfortable feelings, tolerate distress, and make constructive choices in challenging moments. We provide therapeutic interventions and short-term counseling in school. When needed, we also connect families with outside resources. Our goal is to empower students to become lifelong learners with strong self-advocacy, clear communication, and effective problem-solving skills.
