Home of the Hounds
Highlands Elementary School
As Highlands’ new principal, I am learning about our school’s strong sense of community, pride, and commitment to accepting and teaching all students. This takes teachers, support staff, parents/caregivers, and students all working together through agreed-upon values.
Fortunately, our school culture and climate are driven by the values exemplified in the Highlands High Five:
The Highlands High Five
- Be Kind
- Be Safe
- Be a Hard Worker
- Be Creative
- Show Integrity
These values will guide all that we do at school, wherever we do it—including how we play at recess, eat and socialize in the cafeteria, walk in the hallways, and most importantly, learn in the classrooms.
We will emphasize these values in many ways this school year. During weekly communitywide meetings, staff and students will share and model the behaviors we strive for each school day. In addition, we will recognize High Five behaviors during morning announcements and display them on a dedicated bulletin board in the main hallway. If and when a student needs support in following our values, opportunities to reflect, discuss, and find strategies to best help change behaviors so they align with the Highlands High Five will be provided.
This is the sixth school I’ve been given the duty and honor to lead. I do so with humility, dedication, and compassion. My agenda is the same as yours: give children what they need to become happy, healthy, and successful people.
Sincerely,
Anthony Colannino
