Note: School health services serve to supervise health status and inform parents of student needs, but are not a substitute for parental responsibility for medical care.
Mandated Screenings
State-mandated screenings are private and confidential. Screenings for vision, posture, and hearing are completed to identify any health issues that may hinder student learning. If a student does not pass a screening, a notification letter will be sent home from the school nurse.
- Height, Weight, Vision & Hearing Screenings: Grade 7 — Conducted by HRMS Nurses
- Postural Screening: Grades 6, 7 & 8 — Conducted by HRMS Nurses
- SBIRT Screening (Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral & Treatment): Grade 7 — Conducted by School Nurses, Guidance Counselors, and Social Workers
Screening Opt-Out Option: If you would like to opt your child out of any of these screenings, please email meghanpaul@danvers.org or amandapiraino@danvers.org.
Casts, Crutches & Orthopedic Injuries
Check-In Required Upon Arrival
If your student comes to school using crutches, a cast, or an immobilizer, they must check in with the Health Office before reporting to class.
Medical documentation from the student’s healthcare provider is required. The documentation should outline:
- Injury or medical diagnosis
- Explanations of any restrictions or accommodations needed at school (including physical education, athletics, and other school activities)
- Elevator access recommendations, when medically appropriate based on the provider’s evaluation
Medication During the School Day
Please notify the Health Office if your student requires any prescription or non-prescription medication during school hours.
- To have medications be administered at school, we need an order from the doctor and the parent consent form completed. The doctor can fax the order to our office. (978-762-8332). Parents can bring the medications in during school hours, Monday through Thursday 7:20am-2:45pm.
