Financial Assistance and Fee Waivers
Our goal is to ensure every student has equitable access to all educational opportunities.
We understand that district fees can sometimes be a financial burden, and we offer support to waive or reduce these fees for qualifying households. Please view our Financial Assistance Flow Chart for more information as well as answers to frequently asked questions.
How Eligibility Works
Our district uses a process called Direct Certification.
- Automatic Checking: We check student records against state and federal programs (such as SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid) to see if your household qualifies for assistance.
- Notification: If you qualify, you will receive a notification letter via email (or physical mail if no email is on file) from our Food Services department.
- The Household Rule: If one student in your home qualifies, all siblings living in the same household qualify as well.
- Full-Year Coverage: Once a student is approved, their financial assistance status remains active for the entire school year. Qualification is verified every year.
Consent to Share
Even if you qualify for assistance, fees will still appear until you provide “Consent to Share.” Due to privacy laws, the Food Services department cannot share your status with the Business or School Offices without explicit permission. This consent must be provided for each student individually.
How to Provide Consent to Share Status for Financial Assistance
To ensure your student’s financial status is securely shared & fees are waived or reduced, follow these steps:
Option 1: Digital (Fastest and Preferred Option)
(for assistance logging in, email powerschool@danvers.org)
- Select Student: Click your child’s name in the upper left corner.
- Find Forms: Click ‘Forms’ in the left-hand navigation bar.
- Complete: Fill out the Financial Assistance Consent form.
- Repeat: Follow these steps for each child in your household to ensure each student has consent to check for waiver eligibility.
Option 2: Emergency Contact Form
- Consent may also be given on your student’s Emergency Contact Form(s) collected within the PowerSchool Student and Parent Portal at the start of the school year.
- If unable to complete the form in September, please refer to Option 1.
Option 3: Paper Form
If you prefer to fill out a physical document, paper Consent to Share forms are available here.
Please sign and return electronically to Jennifer Sahagian by emailing the completed form to jennifersahagian@danvers.org.
English Financial Assistance Consent Form
Please note: Consent to share Direct Certification status only needs to be given once per student for their entire Danvers Public Schools enrollment. It remains in effect unless rescinded.
Results
Direct certification will determine your eligibility for a waiver in one of three ways:
- Your student(s) qualify as FREE status = meaning you get a full fee waiver.
- Your student(s) qualify as REDUCED status = meaning you get a reduced fee waiver.
- Your student(s) do(es) NOT qualify = meaning no eligibility match was found at this time, and no automatic waiver was given.
If the process has been completed and you were not found eligible for a waiver but still need assistance, please submit an appeal to the Danvers Public Schools Business Manager, Pamela Crum, at pamelacrum@danvers.org, for next steps.
